After eight years, the William K. Busch Brewing Co. is shutting down operations.
The company, which produces Kräftig and Kräftig Light, announced plans to cease operations in a press release, citing "market demand." Owner William K. "Billy" Busch is a great-grandson of Anheuser-Busch co-founder Adolphus Busch, and founded the Kräftig brand in 2011.
"After careful consideration, the William K. Busch Brewing Company has decided to shut down," he said in a statement. "I want to thank all of our customers, retailers, suppliers and vendors who have supported us over the last eight years. I’ve always been passionate about brewing, because it’s in my blood. I hope to one day return to this great American-led industry."
The news comes just a few months after Busch announced plans to open a brewery and distillery in Defiance, Missouri, located just west of St. Louis. Plans for the 20,000-square-foot facility also included a petting zoo, gift shop, beer hall and museum.
Consumers will still be able to find Kräftig on the market while supplies last; the company predicts that inventory will last through this September.
