Guerrilla Street Food is expanding – again.
Earlier this year, the fast-casual Filipino restaurant opened a kitchen inside 2nd Shift Brewing and announced plans for a collaboration with Tropical Liqueurs in The Grove.
Now, Guerrilla Street Food has announced yet another expansion: a new location at 6120 Delmar Blvd. in The Loop.
"Our ethos of Guerrilla Street Food has always been to offer approachable and affordable food for the masses," co-owners Brian Hardesty and Joel Crespo said in a statement. "Whether it’s with partners or stand-alone restaurants, we seek out locations that serve that goal. We’re always open to new opportunities, and we’re excited to be a part of the Loop community.”
Heidi Hamamura, who has been working alongside Hardesty in the Guerrilla Street Food kitchen for the past few months, has been tapped as executive chef of the new Delmar location. Just as the menu at the 2nd Shift and Grove restaurants are unique to their location, the Delmar Guerrilla Street Food will feature Hamamura's influence. The chef grew up learning from her father, local sushi chef Naomi Hamamura, before working in other kitchens with Italian and Israeli influences. Her first exposure to Filipino food and cooking came from local Filipino chef Malou Perez-Nievera of Skip to Malou, who hosts Kamayan-style feasts at Hiro Asian Kitchen.
"I immediately identified with the home-style cooking of Filipino food," Hamamura said. "I think the urban street food experience of Guerrilla Street Food’s menu totally makes sense for the Loop neighborhood, and I’m excited to roll out dishes that reflect the community."
That means that, in addition to Hamamura's new dishes, fans of Guerrilla Street Food can expect to see favorites like the Flying Pig, 800-Pound Guerrilla and Chicken Adobo. The Delmar location is expected to open this winter.
