2nd Shift Brewing is headed east.
This afternoon, the New Haven, Missouri-based brewery – known in particular for its Katy, Brew Cocky and Art of Neurosis – confirmed a longstanding rumor that it will move its operations to St. Louis. 2nd Shift plans to open a brewery and tasting room in an 18,000-square-foot facility at 1601 Sublette Ave. in St. Louis' Hill neighborhood this year. It will be the first brewery and tasting room for the historic neighborhood.
"We're so excited to be located on the Hill," 2nd Shift co-owner Libby Crider said in a release. "Not only to be able to provide beer more locally to St. Louis, but also to be part of this amazing neighborhood."
The brewery has been located at Cedar Creek Center in New Haven since opening in 2009.
“We can’t thank Cedar Creek enough for providing us with a home these past years, it was a wonderful experience,” co-owner and head brewer Steve Crider said.
The new facility will provide 2nd Shift additional room for expansion, as well as the ability to produce more barrel-aged beers and opportunities for new packaging options.
"This is an amazing step for all us at 2nd Shift," operations manager Michael Sweeney said. "Not only will we be able to produce more beer for our fans, but will be able to provide us with more room to look at potential new ways to get our beer into people’s hands."
The tasting room will give 2nd Shift fans the first opportunity to try year-round and new beers. The brewery is partnering with Tilford Restaurant Group (of Mission Taco Joint, Milagro Modern Mexican and Tortillaria) to create a menu "that pays homage to the Hill and provides delicious pub grub."
On June 9, 2nd Shift will host a special limited bottle release featuring Apricot Katy and Annabelle. (Allocations for these special bottles will be determined based on turnout.)
2nd Shift anticipates a late summer opening.
