Pink Boots Society St. Louis members represent local breweries including Brew Hub, Urban Chestnut, Schlafly and more.

This Thursday, you can raise a pint to the women in St. Louis' craft beer community.

Pink Boots Society St. Louis plans to tap This Brut Was Made for Walkin', a 6.4 percent ABV Brut IPA, at the Brew Hub Taproom. Each year, the St. Louis chapter joins Pink Boots groups across the country in brewing a collaborative beer to celebrate International Women's Day on March 8. Although beer styles vary from chapter to chapter (Springfield's Pink Boots chapter, for instance, brewed a Berliner weisse this year), each group uses an exclusive hop blend developed for Pink Boots by Yakima Chief Hops.

This Brut Was Made for Walkin' was brewed by Pink Boots members from the local beer industry including 2nd Shift Brewing, Earthbound Beer, Brew Hub, Schlafly Beer, Urban Chestnut Brewing Co., Anheuser-Busch, Craft Beer Cellar, Craft Republic and more. The beer will be tapped at a special event at Brew Hub on Thu., April 18 from 5 to 8pm, with 100 percent of proceeds going back to Pink Boots Society St. Louis.

The St. Louis chapter of the national organization was founded in early 2018 by Troy Bedik (formerly of Civil Life Brewing Co.) and Johanna Foege (formerly of Perennial Artisan Ales). Furthering education among women in the beer industry is a primary goal of the group; each general meeting includes an educational component covering topics like unconventional flavors in beer, draft-line troubleshooting or malt.

"It’s been amazing to see more women involved in the craft beer industry in recent years," says Pink Boots member and Schlafly brewer Emily Byrne. "When I started in St. Louis in 2013, the group of women in the local beer scene was pretty small and there also wasn’t as much awareness that jobs were available to women in the beer world. But with the help of St. Louis beer groups like Femme Ferment, The OG and now our local chapter of the Pink Boots Society, the visibility of women in the industry has made it possible for other women to know these jobs exist. It’s so exciting to see the female presence in beer in St. Louis grow and I can’t wait to see even more women become a part of it."
