The RateBeer Best Awards for 2015 were held this past weekend in Santa Rosa, California, and several Missouri breweries cleaned up.
Cory King's Side Project Brewing was named one of the best breweries in the world – the St. Louis brewery took the eighth spot on a list of 100. The breweries were awarded a summary score based on reviews over the past year as well as top-performing beers, historical all-around performance and the brewer's range of performance across styles.
The top 10 breweries were ranked in order, and the remaining 90, which include top-performing brewers out of more than 22,500 listed on RateBeer's website, are unordered. Kansas City's Boulevard Brewing Co. and Perennial Artisan Ales in St. Louis both earned nods.
Perennial's Barrel-Aged Abraxas was named the state's top beer as well as one of the top 100 beers in the world for 2015. Earthbound Brewing on Cherokee Street in St. Louis was named Missouri's best new brewer.
Side Project also won three of the World's Top 50 New Beer Releases for its Derivation Blend #1, Framboise du Fermier and Thicket. The brewery's Saison Du Blé, Biere du Pays and Saison du Fermier were each awarded within the Best Beers By Style Category. Perennial's Barrel-Aged Abraxas won gold in the Strong Stout category.
Side Project shows no signs of slowing down in 2016: the brewery, which currently operates a tasting room in Maplewood, plans to move its entire brewing operations to the neighborhood, allowing it to increase production and availability of Side Project beers.
