This fall, downtown St. Louis will be home to a food hall when The Eatery opens its doors in the One Metropolitan Square skyscraper. Real estate and investment firm JLL announced the news today in a release, and the owners of the skyscraper are investing $2.5 million to renovate a former restaurant and ground floor common areas into a mass dining area.
Construction for the space will start this June with the hopes of an opening in the fall. Rick Spector, JLL’s senior vice president of retail brokerage, says that the overall vision was to create a space where downtown office workers could find a variety of quality restaurants to choose from while eating together in a shared space.
Spector says The Eatery has no intentions of competing with the upcoming City Foundry food hall in Midtown – at 10,000 square feet, the space is significantly smaller, so there won't be quite as many vendors. True to its name, The Eatery plans for most vendors to be food-related; Arista Gourmet Salads & Flatbreads, Dino’s Deli and Kimcheese Asian Fusion have already signed as tenants at the new space. Operating times of The Eatery will be determined based on customer demand.

Nehring Design, a St. Louis architecture and interior design firm, created The Eatery's sleek, modern interior and connecting 1,000-square-foot outdoor patio. As shown in design renderings, the space will have many windows for open natural lighting, modern interior lighting fixtures and high ceilings. The space will feature a variety of seating, including high-tops, counter and lounge. It will also be outfitted with USB outlets and WiFi connection to create a better lounge experience for customers.
“We just hope people will enjoy the space and the great food there,” Spector says.
