St. Louis events and catering company The Social Affair is moving to a new location in The Grove neighborhood in the summer of 2020 and bringing a new event venue with it. The Dogwood, which will also include new office and kitchen space for the company, is slated to open for events of all kinds in August.
The 8,000-square-foot building will include two floors, an event space, a restaurant-style kitchen on the first floor, a prep kitchen on the second floor, a green room (called The Pearl), office space and a patio that overlooks Manchester Avenue. It'll feature a grand staircase, a 15-foot marble-top bar, custom-crafted tables made from restored pine and more.
The venue will be able to seat about 150 guests or accommodate 250 for a cocktail-style reception by using both the first and second floors.
"The Dogwood is nothing like anything else in St. Louis," says Kelly Spencer, founder and executive chef of The Social Affair. "It's got a very lounge-like aesthetic."
While The Social Affair will now host its own events at The Dogwood, the company will still continue to do off-site catering and events and maintain relationships with venues like The Sheldon Concert Hall and Art Galleries and Wild Carrot. But with a kitchen four times the size of its current location in the Shaw neighborhood, The Dogwood is going to be able to take its food to the next level.
"It will allow us to do a lot more and be a lot more creative in what we can offer to our clients," Spencer says.
But when it comes to The Dogwood's event space, it's a new opportunity for The Social Affair to show off more of what its team can do.
"I'm most excited about welcoming our clients into a space that we have designed for them, with them in mind, and just extending that extraordinary experience that our clients are used to getting from us, but in such a unique and bespoke way," Spencer says.
