Propaganda is closing up shop on Cherokee Street.
Owner Tatyana Telnikova announced the news in a letter on the bar's website, writing that the business became "financially non viable" this year.
"Due to a variety of circumstances, we experienced a gradual dip in sales that is hard to recover from without a large time and possibly financial investment that I cannot afford as I choose to focus on the HandleBar, and on my best project yet – a beautiful 8 month old daughter," she said.
Telnikova opened the Russian-themed bar and restaurant in the former home of Art Bar in May 2016. Telnikova, who moved to St. Louis at age 16, said the bar was "a glimpse into my perception of childhood experiences in Russia." Propaganda offers a small food menu in addition to house cocktails and around a dozen infused vodkas.
Telnikova will now focus primarily on her other business, HandleBar in The Grove. Propaganda's last day of business will be Sun., May 19.
"Myself and the team would like to stay positive over the next week, and cheers with many of you to all the good times we shared at the bar," Telnikova said. "After all, those 3 years were great – we celebrated so much, made so many new friends and have so many great memories!"
