Clayton has a new neighborhood bar. Bemiston Cocktail Club opens officially today, serving as the cocktail bar and events venue for Louie’s Wine Dive. The late-night gathering place features approachable cocktails alongside bar snacks including nacho-cheese flavored popcorn and chili dogs.
As reported by Feast in February, the casual concept replaces Extra Brut, a Champagne lounge from Louie’s founder Whitney VinZant. Ryan Miller, who curates the cocktail programs for all Louie’s Wine Bar locations and affiliates, serves as the operating partner for the venture.
“We’re shifting gears from Extra Brut to create a more approachable, casual neighborhood bar. Cocktails and fun are the whole driving force behind this,” Miller says. “That bar around the corner, the bar in your basement, the hotel lounge – these are all things I was going for.”
The interior design was updated to to give off the feel of a classic Americana-style lounge, complete with strings lights hung across the ceiling, greenery and a walk-up service counter. Around 60 seats fill the space, with plenty of room for standing and mingling.
Classic cocktails include a bottled Dirty Martini with Reyka vodka, dry vermouth and olive; an Old-Fashioned with Bemiston whiskey, Champagne syrup and bitters; and Gin Gin with Hendrick’s gin, ginger and mint. House cocktails include the Trifecta with applejack, bourbon, rum and mint; Cosmos with Bemiston citrus vodka, curacao and cranberry; and the Wham Bam Family Man with Bemiston rum, pina, coconut and aperol.
“Basically, we do all the work beforehand so the cocktails are fast and delicious,” Miller says. “We put everything up on a simple menu to continue to promote quick accessibility of things.”
For a bite to eat, choose from options such as a house nut mix, popcorn with nacho dust and a fried assortment with onion rings, ranch-seasoned tots and dips. A chili dog is also available, featuring a Nathan’s hot dog topped with chorizo chili, mustard and onion on a Hawaiian roll.
“I think that there was something missing from the nightlife scene in Clayton,” Miller says. “We’re hoping people want to start or end their evening here with a drink for the atmosphere and fun times.”
Bemiston Cocktail Club is open Wednesday through Saturday from 5pm to midnight.
