At The Bakers Hub in Chesterfield, shoppers can find baked goods from 10 different local bakers all under one roof. The collaborative sweet spot, which was developed to support local bakers by providing a shared space for the growth of their bakery businesses, debuted on Nov. 11. The initial roster features The Tipsy Goat, Sam’s Vegan Kitchen, It’s Easy As Pie, Patty’s Cheese Cakes, Spoil Me Sweetly, Truck Norris Twisted Treats, Lil’ Mama’s Kitchen, Puff Magic, First Choice Bakery and Gigi’s Bakery Boutique.

As reported by Feast in July, the concept comes from Joe and Shirley Henderson, who also own Fenton-based shared-use kitchen and commissary, The Creative Cookery, which opened in July 2017. Joe, whose background is in IT, originally developed the shared kitchen for his competitive barbecue team. He and his wife, Shirley  a surgical nurse by trade  quickly saw a need for the bakers in their kitchen to have a more direct outlet for getting their goods out into the world.

“We thought maybe a shared space like The Bakers Hub would be a next step for start-up bakeries that were too small to open their own brick-and-mortar stores,” Joe says. “It allows 10 exclusive, unique bakeries to each have their own piece of the bakery.”

The hub fills a 1,300-square-foot space outfitted with the help of locally based MJM Design Company. The front-of-house area features a French café-inspired theme highlighted by the colors of The Bakers Hub logo via an orange-and-white checkered floor and blue chairs.

Each baker member pays a monthly fee to share the commercial kitchen space, displaying the finished products in the storefront’s large display case for guests to come in and peruse all at once. The selection includes everything from French macarons, pies and cheesecakes to empanadas, kolache and vegan sweets.

“There’s lots of variety, and the selection is always changing,” Shirley says. “It’s kind of neat because it’s common for someone to come in and purchase from a few bakers at a time.”

From the rotating set of offerings, visitors can find items such as dark chocolate-sea salt macarons from The Tipsy Goat; lemon curd cheesecakes from Patty’s Cheese Cakes; chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes from Spoil Me Sweetly; and sweet or savory Peruvian empanadas from First Choice Bakery. Special orders are also available –  inquire within.

The Bakers Hub is open Wednesday and Thursday from 7am to 4pm, Friday from 7am to 6pm, Saturday from 8am to noon and Sunday from 8am to noon.
