A celebration of fermentation of all types is coming to 2nd Shift Brewing next month.
In partnership with Feast, the St. Louis chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier plans to host the Funky Fermentation Fundraiser on Mon., Nov. 18. The event will celebrate women in the industry who are fermenting foods and beverages. Guests will get to taste some of the participants' creations, as well as hear from them in a series of interviews and demos.
The panel, moderated by Feast publisher Catherine Neville, will feature Libby Crider of 2nd Shift Brewing, sommelier Alisha Calvert of Olio and Elaia, Anya Corson of Anya's Apothekere and Katie Harris Belahoula of Katie's Cultured Kitchen. A scientist focused on microbiomes from Washington University in St. Louis will also be a guest.
Guests can expect plenty of fermented fun from the event. The evening will start with a tour of the 2nd Shift brewery, as well as a beer tasting. Guests will then receive a welcome cocktail, a "kombucharita," and have the chance to try fermented honeys from Anya's Apothekere, fermented veggies from Katie's Cultured Kitchen and a kombucha sangria.
The event, which is open to the public, will also include an auction of restaurant gift certificates and other booze and fermentation-related products.
Tickets are $25 and available on Brown Paper Tickets.
