If you love cheese, picnics and touring area farms, then you’ll really love Terrell Creek Farm’s new cheese dinners hosted on the 50-acre farm just 30 minutes east of Springfield, Missouri.
Since first selling their cheese in 2012, Lesley and Barry Million have become known for their creamy goat cheeses. There’s velvety chèvre, funky Crottin de Ozarks; a mild Greek Feta; a marinated Feta soaked in olive oil with tomatoes, garlic, and herbs; The Dude (a cousin to brie); Jackie Blue, and the Parmesan-style Caprino Romano.
For a long time, one of the only ways to sample each of Terrell Creek’s cheeses was to visit Farmers Market of the Ozarks on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Then, last fall, the Millions announced a new way customers could enjoy Terrell Creek cheese: at their monthly cheese dinners.
From May through October, Terrell Creek Farm hosts a monthly dinner dedicated to cheese. For $20, guests can tour the farm, listen to live music, enjoy the company of the Nubian goats wandering around, and fill up on a dinner of cheese, charcuterie and desserts. “We serve specialty items we don’t usually sell at the market,” Lesley says. “We also feature other local cheeses, meats, fruits and vegetables that are in season.”
While the focus is on seasonal produce and the latest and greatest Terrell Creek Farm goat cheeses, Lesley often also manages to incorporate a theme. When the couple’s cheese dinner landed near Halloween this past October, Lesley cut cheese into little coffins and built a miniature cheese graveyard. At the dinner this June, berries were back in season, so Lesley loaded the dessert tray with blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and, of course, Terrell Creek’s blueberry-lemon chèvre.
Seating is limited, and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and their beverage of choice. Dinners usually take place the third Saturday of each month through October. The next cheese dinner is scheduled for Sat., July 15 from 5:30 to 8:30pm.
