In Rhineland, Missouri, cyclists travelling along the Katy Trail will find The Corner in the former space of the Trailside Bar & Grill. The restaurant opened in March with a menu full of hearty down-home fare like pasta, pork chops and steaks.

Top sellers are the Reuben and steamboat chicken sandwiches, served with a towering bowl of German potato salad. Desserts include an ever-rotating selection of pies, but the bourbon-soaked Southern pecan bread pudding should not be missed. The Corner also offers a full bar with cocktails, beer and local wine from nearby Hermann.

The restaurant’s name is an homage to the family tavern of co-owner Katie Muenks. After a flood devastated Rhineland in 1993, her parents sold their century-old bar, Gosen’s Corner, and the entire village was relocated to higher ground.

Today’s patrons will find the revamped business decorated with a modern farmhouse aesthetic, but its architectural highlight is the original bar and counter from its namesake tavern, lovingly restored. Muenks and her business partner, Al Renkosik, also purchased the auto repair shop next door and converted it into an attached event venue complete with vaulted ceilings and outdoor seating.
