Last October, Foutch Architecture and Development opened a fully renovated and reimagined recreational facility and sports complex inside the former Kemper Arena in the Stockyards District of Kansas City.
Hy-Vee Arena is now a state-of-the-art sports arena capable of hosting hundreds of local, regional and national sports tournaments a year. With regulation basketball, volleyball and pickleball courts on two levels that can be rented by the hour, guests can also join a league or find a pick-up game, or simply work out at the gym on-site. For family entertainment, there is a Power Play video game room and an escape room, The Escape House. Wise Power Golf & Gaming Lounge will also open soon, providing a golf and sports simulator experience.
The new design includes the addition of a brand-new second floor, which now provides more than 82,000 square feet of sports and event space spread across three levels. The third level is now home to one of the largest indoor tracks in the U.S., measuring 350 meters, which overlooks the new 52,000-square-foot second floor.
To use any of the sports facilities or gym, there is a $5 entry fee for non-members per day, or you can become a member and use all of the amenities for free for $30 a month for a single or $65 for a family of four (with each child an additional $10). Additional fees will be charged for gym classes, games, escape room and the sport simulator.
Hy-Vee Arena is now also home to several sports-related businesses, retail stores and restaurants that have slowly been opening up inside the facility since October. Five restaurants are currently open, with two more, Blind Box BBQ and Power Play Pizza, slated to open soon.
Local restaurant group KC Hopps runs The Bottoms Up Bar inside the arena. The full bar serves draft beer for $5, premium craft beer for $7, wine for $7, well cocktails for $5 and premium spirits for $7. The bar hours are posted every week at the bar, which sits right in the middle of the action on the second floor with a view to the playing floor. Right now, The Bottoms Up Bar is open during all sporting leagues, tournaments on the weekend and for special events during the week. KC Hopps event management is also the official catering partner for the Hy-Vee Arena, so groups, teams or businesses can order boxes lunches or catered spreads from Stroud’s, Blue Moose Food Truck or Relish Catering.
The Hy-Vee Arena is to the public open every day from 6am to midnight.
