True Food Kitchen, the seasonally inspired restaurant and bar, has announced that it will open the doors to its first location in Kansas City on the Country Club Plaza on Wed., March 13.

The new eco-friendly chain, co-founded by integrative medicine expert Dr. Andrew Weil, features delicious health-conscious dishes rooted in the principles of the anti-inflammatory food pyramid.

The diverse food and drink menu celebrates variety and will cater to every food preference with an assortment of delicious vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

True Food Kitchen will be open for lunch and dinner, offering classic fan favorites like spaghetti squash casserole, organic Tuscan kale salad, grass-fed steak tacos and the classic inside-out quinoa burger, featuring two quinoa patties with the vegetable toppings stuffed in between. New spring dishes will include a green asparagus starter, a seasonal ingredient salad, spinach-mushroom pizza and Key lime mousse for dessert.

Their kids menu will follow in the same healthy vein, featuring a chicken teriyaki bowl, mozzarella-organic tomato pizza and an almond butter, banana and apple sandwich.

With a lively scratch bar, True Food Kitchen will feature freshly pressed juices, organic teas and natural refreshers, such as the new Honeydew Cooler, the Hangover Rx and Kale Aid, as well as a seasonal lineup of wine, beer and handcrafted cocktails including the Basil Cucumber Collins, Cherry Bourbon Sour and Strawberry Margarita, all made with the freshest ingredients.

Spending most of the fall and winter hibernating behind plywood walls during construction, True Food Kitchen will blossom this spring into an open and airy 13,000-square-foot restaurant that for 55 years was home to the clubby Plaza III Steakhouse.

The space has been positively transformed with indoor and outdoor dining spaces, a covered patio and open kitchen. Decorated with natural woods and earthy paint tones, the walls are covered with vibrant, locally inspired artwork along with large indoor/outdoor garden basins filled with fresh herbs and spices.

“With its vibrant culture and robust culinary scene, we couldn’t think of a better place to open our first Kansas City location than on the Country Club Plaza,” Shannon Keller, vice president of marketing for True Food Kitchen, said in a release. “We look forward to bringing people together for great-tasting food, thoughtfully crafted beverages and a passion for better living.”

True Food Kitchen is also currently hiring for 135 positions including servers, hosts/hostesses, prep cooks, pastry cooks, line cooks, wok cooks, back servers, dishwashers, pizza cooks and bartenders at a three-week job fair starting this week. For more information, visit their website.

When it opens on March 13, True Food Kitchen will be open Monday through Thursday from 11am to 9pm, Friday from 11am to 10pm, Saturday from 10am to 10pm and Sunday from 10am to 9pm, with brunch served Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 3pm.
