Cleveland's finest is headed to the Metro East.

Great Lakes Brewing Co., an Ohio-based craft brewery that's been taking the Midwest and the mid-Atlantic region by storm, will be distributing its beer into 44 new Illinois counties beginning next week, Great Lakes Spokeswoman Marissa DeSantis told Feast.

Launch events have been scheduled for next week in Vandalia, O'Fallon, Edwardsville, Charleston and CarbondaleGlobal Brew Tap House, which has locations in both O'Fallon, Illinois, and Edwardsville, will host two of the parties.

Could this move be the first step toward bringing classic beer like Dortmunder Gold and the much-loved Christmas Ale across the river to St. Louis proper? DeSantis seemed to hint as such, saying, "Over the past 27 years, because of our commitment to sustainable business practices, fresh beer, and having 'feet on the street' in all of our markets, our distribution expansion has been quite deliberate compared to some other breweries of our size. We’re excited to start rubbing elbows with St. Louis.”

Great Lakes has five year-round beers — two lagers, a pale ale, an IPA and a porter. All will be available to its new Illinois customers, as well as some seasonal and special-release beers.
