The finalists for the 2020 Good Food Awards have been announced, and six Missouri companies were recognized. The annual awards celebrate great food that is social and environmentally responsible while also maintaining a high level of craftsmanship and flavor. Awards are given in 17 categories, ranging from snacks to spirits and pickles to preserves.
In the beer category, St. Louis' Perennial Artisan Ales was nominated for its Giant Steps: Blend 2, a blended saison aged in red wine barrels with grapefruit, blackberries and raspberries. Weston's Green Dirt Farm was nominated for its fresh plain cheese, a lactic-style spreadable cheese. St. Louis' Volpi Foods was also nominated for its heritage prosciutto, which is hand-rubbed, salted and air-dried.
Two Missouri chocolate companies were also nominated this year. Columbia's Patric Chocolate was nominated for its 67 percent Piura Peru and 67 percent Madagascar bars, as well as its Browned Butter Bar. Springfield's Askinosie Chocolate also made the list for a series of chocolate bars: the dark chocolate and red raspberry "CollaBARation" bar, the 76 percent Chinchipe bar, the Ecuador dark chocolate "The Zeke Bar' and the 88 percent dark blend chocolate bar.
Last, but not least, St. Louis' Banner Road Baking Co. was nominated for its Midnight Snack granola, which is loaded with organic oats, quinoa, cashews, sweet potato and golden raisins seasoned with traditional Indian spices and turmeric.
On the other side of the river, Rolling Meadows Farm Brewery in central Illinois was nominated for its Fresh hop Biere de Garde.
Winners will be announced Jan. 17, and the full list of finalists can be found on the Good Food Awards website.
