MO Wine Competition

St. James Winery took home the top prize for its 2014 Vignoles.

The annual Missouri Wine Competition took place in Jefferson City last week and St. James Winery of St. James, Missouri, has emerged victorious. The two-day competition was decided by nine judges from across the country and one additional wine industry judge, including Feast publisher Catherine Neville.

St. James won the top honor, the Missouri Governor's Cup, for its 2014 Vignoles; it also won Best Vignoles and Best of Class Semi-Dry White. Judges tasted more than 270 Missouri wines over a two-day competition.

"We are ecstatic for our vineyard and winery team members," Andrew Meggitt, executive winemaker for St. James Winery, says in a statement. "They work hard to ensure our grapes and wine are the best they can be."

St. James was founded in 1970 in the town it was named after, which is near Rolla, Missouri. It produces more than 500,000 gallons of wine per year and is also known for its summery fruit wines. The Vignoles, which won the Governor's Cup, is a popular Missouri grape and a French-American hybrid. It's noted for its "luscious floral aroma and fruity flavors of pineapple and apricot."

The Missouri Wine Competition winners will be on display at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, Missouri, on August 13 to 23, but you can also find St. James wines at grocery stores across the state. Here are the 12 Best of Class winners:
