Wine Spectator recently awarded 38 restaurants throughout Missouri with accolades for their wine selections. The Wine Spectator 2014 Restaurant Awards named nearly 3,800 restaurants as award winners worldwide, across all 50 states and more than 80 countries and territories.

The awards are split into three categories:

  • The entry-level Award of Excellence “recognize[s] a wine list offering an interesting and diverse selections of wines that are well-presented and thematically match the restaurant's cuisine in price and style.”
  • The middle tier Best of Award of Excellence honors those restaurants with over 350 quality wine selections with “significant vintage depth or superior breadth in one or more major wine regions.”
  • The top tier Grand Award offer more than 1,500 selections and are an elite group of restaurants in which every detail is inspected by Wine Spectator to ensure that not only the wine cellar, but the overall ambiance of the restaurant fits award requirements.

In Missouri, nine restaurants were awarded the Best of Award of Excellence: 

  • Annie Gunn's (St. Louis)
  • Balaban's (St. Louis)
  • 801 Chophouse (St. Louis)
  • Gerard's Restaurant (St. Louis)
  • Truffles (St. Louis)
  • The American Restaurant (Kansas City)
  • The Capital Grille (Kansas City)
  • Osteria Il Centro (Kansas City)
  • Celebrations Restaurant and Bar (Cape Girardeau)

An additional 29 restaurants were honored with the entry-level Award of Excellence, including:

  • Accurso's Italian Restaurant (Kansas City)
  • Chateau Grille (Branson)
  • Chaz on the Plaza (Kansas City)
  • Copia Restaurant and Wine Garden (St. Louis)
  • The Duck (Lake of the Ozarks)
  • 801 Chophouse (Kansas City)
  • 1111 Mississippi (St. Louis)
  • Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar (St. Louis)
  • Fogo de Chao (Kansas City)
  • Glenn's Cafe (Columbia)
  • J. Buck's Restaurant (St. Louis)
  • Justus Drugstore (Smithville)
  • Lucas Park Grille (St. Louis)
  • The Melting Pot (Kansas City)
  • The Melting Pot (St. Louis)
  • The Melting Pot (Town and Country)
  • Michael Smith (Kansas City)
  • Mike Shannon's Steaks and Seafood (St. Louis)
  • Minsky's Pizza (Kansas City)
  • 1904 Steakhouse (St. Louis)
  • Plaza III, The Steakhouse (Kansas City)
  • Remy's Kitchen & Wine Bar (St. Louis)
  • The Restaurant at the Chesire (St. Louis)
  • The Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange (Kansas City)
