Gerard Craft Wins First James Beard Award for Best Chef: Midwest

Congratulations to Gerard Craft!

The Niche chef-owner, who also owns Pastaria, Brasserie by Niche and Taste by Niche, has won his first James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: Midwest.

This is Craft's first James Beard win and sixth finalist nomination in the category.

Craft was the only semi-finalist from Missouri to advance to the final round.

He competed against three chefs from the Twin Cities – Paul Berglund of The Bachelor Farmer and Michelle Gayer of Salty Tart in Minneapolis, as well as Lenny Russo of Heartland Restaurant & Farm Direct Market in St. Paul – plus Justin Carlisle of Ardent in Milwaukee.

Craft is the first St. Louis-based chef to take home the Best Chef: Midwest award.

Congrats, chef!
