There’s never a more perfect time for a cool, refreshing cocktail than summer. The sticky Midwest heat has made even our favorite springtime patios unbearable – or rather, a tad too warm for comfort.
So, with the help of some of Kansas City’s finest artisans and distillers, we’re heading indoors and creating our own boozy concoctions.
Raise a glass to delicious local cocktail “fixins” and enjoy these top-notch homemade libations. Cheers!
KC Collins
- Handful ice cubes
- 3 ounces Kansas City Canning Co. Meyer Lemon & Lavender Shrub
- 2 ounces J. Rieger & Co. vodka
- 2 ounces club soda
- Fresh rosemary needles, muddled
- Sprig of rosemary (to serve)

| Preparation |
Combine all ingredients (except the rosemary sprig) in a cocktail shaker and shake very well. Strain and pour into a Collins glass or mason jar. Garnish with a sprig of fresh rosemary.
Brookside Buzz
- 1 to 2 cups iced Roasterie coffee
- 2 ounces Dark Horse Distillery Reserve Bourbon Whiskey
- 1 scoop Fleur de Sel Caramel Glacé Artisan Ice Cream
| Preparation |
Combine iced coffee and bourbon in a mixing glass and stir for about 30 seconds. Pour into a snifter and add 1 scoop of ice cream.
Midwest Margarita
- Handful ice cubes
- 3 ounces Kansas City Canning Co. Watermelon Habanero Shrub
- 2 ounces tequila
- 1 ounce triple sec
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice
- Jalapeño slice (to serve)
| Preparation |
Combine all ingredients (except the jalapeño slice) in a cocktail shaker and shake very well. Pour into a margarita glass or mason jar. Garnish with a slice of fresh jalapeño.
