The Mixx, Kansas City’s locally owned, healthy, quick-casual restaurant, has now officially opened its first Kansas location in Overland Park’s Hawthorne Plaza Shopping Center at the corner of 119th Street and Roe Avenue.
Created and designed by owner, Jo Marie Scaglia, the new restaurant is the third location for The Mixx.
"I am absolutely thrilled to open our third Mixx location in Overland Park," Scaglia tells Feast. "After building two locations at The Country Club Plaza and downtown, you realize that each store is different, and with each new location I have tried to improve the experience and flow. The Hawthorne Plaza location was meticulously designed to fit our customers’ needs, bringing light and life into our first Kansas location."
The new interior features mid-century modern design influences hand-picked by Scaglia. The entire new space draws on natural light from a skylight uncovered during construction. The signature green with white and earth tones continue the light and fresh design elements.
"One of my favorite aspects of the Hawthorne location is the skylight – by exposing this skylight that was hidden for decades and adding floor-to-ceiling opening to the wrap-around patio, I was able to find a solution to bring light into the space," Scaglia says. "It was my goal to design a quick-casual dining experience where the high-quality food is matched by the meticulously-designed interior."
She explains the fresh new flagship restaurant is her largest location, taking over a 4,300-square-foot space with a 2,237-square-foot dining room. Additional services she has added to this location include a full-service juice bar and coffee bar for quick stops in the morning, as well as an in-house bakery.
The Mixx’s first in-house bakery, which will bake items for all of their locations, will include traditional to alternative items and vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free treats such as alternative and signature truffles, breakfast breads, cookies, cupcakes, muffins and house-made granola and granola bars.
The Hawthorne location will also feature its own juice and smoothie bar and a coffee bar manned with a dedicated staff. A new quick-serve breakfast menu as well as grab-and-go lunch menu with handcrafted sandwiches and wraps will all continue to be made to order. Scaglia plans to unveil her new menu starting June 15.
There is ample parking for those looking to make a quick stop, or if you prefer to stay and work the restaurant is fully wired to connect and recharge. Guests can drop by to eat, call-in their orders or order online, then once they have arrived they can come in and pick up their order or have it brought out to them curbside for a quick bite on the run.
The Mixx Hawthorne Plaza location will be open Monday through Friday 7am to 8pm, Saturday 10am to 8pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm.
