St. Louis restaurant closings: January 2021
Lemmons by Grbic

Like many restaurants trying to weather the pandemic, Lemmons By Grbic has decided to hibernate for the winter. "While winter looms ahead, we have decided to do our part and shut our doors for a short bit to keep our guests, family, staff and friends safe," the owners wrote in a Facebook post. "This was not an easy decision to make, but as we are surrounded by uncertainty, we are choosing to make decisions that put the health and safety of all people first. We are working on a plan to reopen soon and will announce a date depending on the course of the pandemic. It’s been extremely difficult navigating our way through the past 10 months, and we rolled with each and every punch thrown our way and closing for a short while will help put us in a much better position to operate when we return."

According to a report from KSDK, downtown bars Start Bar and The Wheelhouse have been ordered to shut down for one year for violating public health orders regarding social distancing and mask mandates. "The observation of these orders is essential to protect the public health. Accordingly... I order that your premise located at 1000 Spruce Street shall be closed effective immediately, and shall not be reopened before January 19, 2022, unless and until I order otherwise," Acting Health Director Dr. Fredrick Echols wrote in the order.

Fresh off a Taco Bell-inspired pop up, Vegan Deli & Butcher, which specialized in plant-based versions of popular sandwiches such as a Reuben, French Dip and Italian sub, closed its doors for good on Main Street in St. Charles. Chef Chris Bertke, formerly of Utah Station told Riverfront Times that "the owners wanted to go in a different direction. No one really knows why this happened."
