Alta Calle Huarache

Huarache de maiz azul with black garlic, charred zucchini, beans, queso fresco, pepitas and charred avocado.

Since Tower Grove South's Alta Calle opened just over a year ago, the restaurant has been serving upscale Mexican cuisine in a fun and colorful setting. But even if you don't feel comfortable sitting in a dining room right now, you don't have to skip the creative cuisine coming of the Alta Calle kitchen.

One of the stars of the menu at Alta Calle is the huarache. The dish typically features oblong-shaped fried masa dough smothered in toppings, but Alta Calle takes it to the next level. This version is made with blue corn and topped with black garlic, charred zucchini, beans, queso fresco, pepitas and charred avocado, so even vegetarians can indulge.

The Alta Calle menu also includes everything from tacos to tortas to enchiladas. Try the pollo alto, a half of a chicken cooked sous vide-style, or the grits y camaron, the restaurant's Latin take on shrimp and grits.

Alta Calle is offering its menu for takeout and dine-in service.
