Des Peres, Missouri, has a new destination for breakfast and lunch. Sunny Street Cafe debuted on Nov. 14, offering a full menu of casual, family-friendly American brunch-style fare.
According to director of operations Kim Kidwell, Sunny Street Cafe opened its first location in Columbus, Ohio, in 2006. There are currently 25 locations throughout Ohio, Texas, Alabama and Missouri. The Des Peres restaurant is the fourth operation in the St. Louis area following outposts in Wentzville, Wildwood and Arnold.
The full-service restaurant fills the space previously occupied by The Egg & I, with approximately 126 seats inside plus an outdoor patio. In addition to the ability to accommodate large groups, Sunny Street Cafe also offers catering.
Remodeling including bright breakfast-themed embellishments including hand-painted orange and egg art on white and yellow walls as well as a chalkboard drawing of the St. Louis skyline. The menu is similar across all locations, divided into breakfast and lunch options.
“We tout our food as local and fresh from somewhere you could ride your bike to,” Kidwell says. “The menu offers a mix of scratch-made classics as well as some funkier, less traditional options such as loaded hash browns and a breakfast quesadilla. We call it food that tastes like your grandma went to culinary school.”
The aforementioned breakfast quesadilla comes stuffed with scrambled eggs, black bean salsa, tomatoes, red onion and Jack cheese. Additional highlights from the breakfast menu include French toast crunch featuring French toast coated in a granola-coconut crunch, topped with strawberries, bananas and whipped cream.
Lunch specialties include a Monterey ranch chicken wrap with crispy or grilled chicken breast, Monterey Jack, bacon, lettuce, tomato and a side of house ranch. Another popular pick is a berry avocado salad with fresh greens, strawberries, avocado, Feta, candied walnuts and red wine vinaigrette.
Seasonal specials include winter options such as a pork belly grits bowl with house roasted pork belly over Cheddar grits, topped with hot sauce, jalapeño and a fried egg. Chicken and waffles is another limited-time offering with crispy hand-breaded fried chicken, a golden waffle, honey butter and house hot sauce.
“The Des Peres location was a great opportunity with a great clientele that blends well with our three other local restaurants,” Kidwell says. “The staff is friendly and inviting, and we serve great made-from-scratch food.”
Sunny Street Cafe in Des Peres is open Monday through Sunday from 6:30am to 2:30pm.
