UKRAFT is headed to St. Louis City.
Clayton-based UKRAFT is opening a second brick-and-mortar location in Downtown St. Louis, with an opening date slated for December. This is in addition to the company's popular food truck.
Co-owner Matt Ratz says that the location, which formerly was home to 6 North Cafe, will give UKRAFT the space to expand its delivery radius, with the location serving as a centralized location for in-house delivery. Foot traffic at the Clayton café has been down amid the pandemic, like at many restaurants, so the additional services will give the business another revenue stream. While outdoor food truck sales and individually-wrapped catered items have been successful through COVID-19, traffic at UKRAFT's Clayton café slowed.
"It's kind of a double-edged sword," Ratz says.
Added space will also allow UKRAFT to expand its menu of paninis, salads and grain bowls. Fans of the brand can expect new sandwiches, but Ratz says that the team will also be adding smoothies to the menu at the new location.
"We'll have a lot more room to work with down there," he says.
And when the pandemic finally comes to an end, Ratz is confident that the 9 to 5 crowd will bring in consistent foot traffic at the new Downtown location.
"When people go back to work, the bodies inside the café are gonna come," Ratz says. "Hopefully, by that time, we'll have delivery rockin'."
