Side Project Brewing has a new accolade under its belt, thanks to RateBeer.
RateBeer, a website that ranks and reviews beer, has named the Maplewood, Missouri, brewery the No. 2 brewer in the world. The ranking was decided by compiling over 4.2 million customer and industry reviews. Over 33,000 brewers were considered worldwide.
“Our winners are big and small, urban and rural, highly specialized or brewing a myriad of styles. RateBeer Best judges them on equal footing, with many of our reviewers traveling extensively, so it's not uncommon to see a brewery that some people see as their local gem recognized as a global best," RateBeer founder Joe Tucker said in a press release.
Side Project, which specializes in barrel-aged beers including saisons, wild ales and spirit barrel-aged ales, moved up from No. 9 brewer in the world last year. Hill Farmstead Brewery in Vermont took home the top honors for the seventh year in a row.
“This recognition from the global beer community is an amazing honor. We are so grateful to the RateBeer members and our Side Project customers, fans and friends," Side Project owner Cory King said in a press release from the brewery. “Thank you to everyone who has traveled to visit us to see our vision and our tiny brewing operation here in Maplewood, Missouri.”
Only one other Missouri beer made the list – Kansas City's Boulevard Brewing Co. came in at 53rd in the world.
