Holy Mole dishes

Holy Mole offers three different mole dishes.

Fans of the late Milagro Modern Mexican are in luck: The owners are bringing it back to life through a new ghost kitchen.

Mission Taco Joint has launched Holy Mole, a concept focused on mole, the traditional Mexican sauce and marinade. The ghost kitchen is now serving up dishes for pickup in Webster Groves or for delivery right to your doorstep.

The menu is inspired by items from Milagro, the now-shuttered Webster Groves restaurant from the team behind Mission Taco Joint. Chef-owner Jason Tilford said in a press release that the idea for the concept came about after outcry from fans of the former restaurant.

“Someone posed the question on Facebook asking friends to share the favorite dish that they’ve ever had," he said. "Among responses from travels around the world were two mentions of former Milagro dishes – the tuna ceviche and the salmon with plantain mole. I kind of got called out to bring it back. In all seriousness, we love and miss the menu at Milagro so it feels exciting and nostalgic to reintroduce the favorite dishes in this new format.”

Holy Mole also offers a small selection of starters, giving you the option of chips and salsa, guacamole, a house salad and a tuna ceviche, but the stars of the concept are the entrées. The menu features three different mole dishes: roasted chicken with mole poblano, beef short ribs with mole negro and roasted salmon with plantain mole, all which help to highlight Tilford's love for mole.

"We had a multi-course appreciation dinner for all of our general managers a few weeks ago where we featured several mole dishes on the menu," Tilford said. "It reminded me how much I love the sauce and how modern Mexican cuisine inspires me as a chef. It takes so much care and time to make with over 20 ingredients cooked slowly together. It’s nuanced and comforting – perfect for winter."

Holy Mole will be available for delivery on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 2 to 5pm for those who order the day before. The chef-prepared meal will come with instructions to assemble or reheat at home.

Delivery is available within a 5-mile radius of Mission Taco Joint’s central kitchen at 286 East Ave. in Webster Groves. For orders outside of the delivery radius, email holymole@milagromodernmexican.com to coordinate directly. Depending on location, the team can arrange pickup at the central kitchen or calculate a delivery fee.
