A shop-and-stroll event at the end of the month will both celebrate Black-owned businesses and work for change in St. Louis.
On Sun., Aug 30, the upcoming City Foundry STL development in Midtown will host "Time for Change" in partnership with Taste of Black St. Louis. The socially-distanced event will bring together Black-owned businesses from across the city to benefit local racial equity initiatives. Tickets are available for hour-long time slots to allow for crowd control, and 100 percent of sales from each $5 ticket will go to Action STL and Forward Through Ferguson.
The event will be held outdoors at the venue, which has delayed its opening plans in light of the pandemic.
“City Foundry STL will be an inclusive and diverse place for locals and visitors to get a feel for the fabric of our city," City Foundry asset manager Will Smith said in a release. "While we can’t open City Foundry’s doors completely just yet, we do want to plan events like this to highlight our amazing community. We want to encourage positive action and change in St. Louis.”
Plenty of food vendors will be on hand to serve up fare to hungry shoppers, including Café de LáSha, Harvey’s Heavenly Hands Catering, Momma Boogies Small Batch Cakery, Patty’s Cheesecakes, Simply Cooking with Donna, and Street Life food truck. For those who are more interested in browsing, you'll be able to find products ranging from clothing to hair care to pet treats.
To further benefit racial equity, a new voting initiative will also be launched during the event. She Votes, a collaboration by local women owned businesses Collections by Joya, 2Lu City and Golden Gems, is a nonpartisan movement to amplify women's voices at the voting booth. They'll be on hand with fun apparel, but most importantly, with resources for voters to be educated and prepared for both local and national elections.
Guests will enter via the parking garage on Forest Park Parkway. Tickets for the event can be purchased online through Eventbrite. Masks are required for entry.
