Peacemaker Lobster & Crab Co. Boil

You can now bring Peacemaker's popular seafood boils home with you.

You can now enjoy a fresh seafood boil from the comfort of your own home.

Popular Benton Park seafood spot Peacemaker Lobster & Crab Co. is launching do-it-yourself lobster and shrimp boils this weekend. A boil can seem daunting, even to a comfortable home cook, but Peacemaker includes step-by-step instructions to guide you through the process.

The team actually started thinking about shipping boil kits last summer, when they were getting lots of requests to ship out of state. Peacemaker did a few special runs of the kits over the past year for Fourth of July and Labor Day to iron out the process. The pandemic seemed like the perfect time to launch this new offering.

The kits come in portions for one – perfect if you’re quarantined at home alone – or two servings, and customers can purchase more ingredients as needed. For one serving, you’ll receive either one pound of shrimp or one Maine lobster, plus potatoes, a seasonal vegetable (corn in summer and Brussels sprouts in winter), a housemade biscuit and andouille sausage. The kits also include everything you’ll need to prepare the boil, such as butter, salt and cayenne seasoning, as well as the step-by-step instructions. Crawfish will also be available seasonally.

Peacemaker general manager Alexandra Klingseisen says she herself was able to pull off the boil without a hitch, so first-timers shouldn’t be nervous.

“I cook, but I’m not by any means as great cook,” she says with a laugh. “The instructions really take you through it step by step. It was my first time doing the shrimp, and it turned out great. [Customers] say they really felt like they enjoyed the experience and they understood everything they were doing.

Boil kits can be ordered directly from Peacemaker’s website and can ship anywhere in the St. Louis area. Klingseisen advises a 48-hour notice, as Peacemaker picks up its seafood, shipped fresh from the coast, at the airport daily. Soon, the restaurant hopes to expand with nationwide delivery.

“It gives people that experience during this pandemic,” Klingseisen says, “to enjoy the food that they’ve enjoyed in our restaurant in the comfort of their own home.”
