If we had to sum up the past month on the St. Louis dining scene in two words, we might say "ghost kitchen." As restaurants begin to rethink their operations and pivot to more carryout-friendly fare amid COVID-19, several have opened ghost kitchens, or entirely new concepts housed under the same roof that offer a different menu that's only available for carryout and/or delivery. The team behind Polite Society and The Bellwether has launched Sub Division Sandwich Co., BEAST Craft BBQ's owners have opened Wing Runner out of their popular barbecue joint in The Grove, and Revel Kitchen is now serving up Detroit-style pies under the moniker Motor Town Pizza in Brentwood. 

This month also saw several reopenings, including the return of 9 Mile Garden in Affton, an expanded space for Boardwalk Waffles & Ice Cream in Maplewood and a new concept from the owner of Kiin Essentially Thai located in the same space downtown.

Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to take its toll on the restaurant industry, and a few spots did shutter for good this month, including The Grove mainstay Attitudes, two locations of Guerrilla Street Food and the storied Cusanelli's in Lemay. Byrd & Barrel owner Bob Brazell also announced a few shakeups: the original Byrd location on Jefferson has closed while a new (much larger) location is built out in Southwest Garden, and The Tenderloin Room has closed indefinitely in the Central West End.
