Chicken Out original

The original Chicken Out sandwich is fried chicken served on a poato bun and topped with pickles and Duke's mayo.

Chicken Out is spreading its wings and flying to Kirkwood.

According to a press release, the fried chicken sandwich concept from Mike Johnson, owner of Sugarfire Smoke House and Hi-Pointe Drive-In, is getting a second location. The "faster-casual" restaurant is set to open at 10463 Manchester Road this summer, as first reported by St. Louis Magazine.

"We’re pumped to be starting this expansion of Chicken Out," partner Ben Hillman said in the release. "The chicken sandwich market is super competitive, and it’s exciting to be able to bring our spin. This has been in the making for a while and Mike’s chef-driven touch really brings some creativity to the category.”

The owners are seeing the new location as not only a business opportunity, but as an opportunity to connect with the community of Kirkwood.

“While we’re, of course, focused on making great fried chicken, we put a lot of stake into the values of our company,” Hillman said. “The core of that is taking care of our people, giving them opportunities to grow, and building the communities we work in. We’re grateful to have been able to give back, even during the circumstances of the last year, and hope to give back in even bigger ways going forward and truly look forward to extending that to our new neighbors in Kirkwood.”

The new location will provide expanded options to pick up food or have it delivered, including a drive-thru window for fast and convenient service.

The menu is expected to stay the same, focusing on the concept's signature pressure-fried chicken. Sandwiches range from the classic Chicken Out or Spicy Chicken Out, served with just mayo and pickles on a potato bun, to the Mo Parm Mo Foul (chicken Parmesan with marinara and arugula served on cheesy bread) or the healthier Fit Chick (marinated grilled chicken breast on a multigrain bun with kale slaw and an avocado-yogurt dressing). Kirkwood will also get to try out Chicken Out's fries, which are seasoned with a savory "chicken salt" that you can even buy to use at home.

There is no set opening date for the Kirkwood location.
