Side Project Beers

Side Project's first beer festival will focus on barleywines and stouts.

Few drinks are as guaranteed to warm you up on a cold February afternoon as a rich stout or barleywine. The world-renowned Side Project Brewing is celebrating these beers by inviting brewers from all over the world to its first "Side Project Invitational," a beer festival that will focus solely on barrel-aged stouts and barleywines.

The festival will be held at Majorette in Maplewood, Missouri, on Feb. 2. The invitational will kick off Side Project's Stout Week at its cellar and tasting room, both of which are also located in Maplewood.

Rachel Manning, Side Project's event manager, says that the team at Side Project is really excited because they've never thrown a festival like this before.

"We've got great fans and great customers, and we just think it's high time for us to throw a fest and kind of bring those worlds all together," Manning says.

The invitational, as the name implies, is invite-only, meaning that Side Project has curated quite an impressive lineup. Guests can expect to sip brews from local and visiting breweries alike. Some St. Louis favorites like 2nd Shift Brewing and Narrow Gauge Brewing Co. will be on hand, but others, like Creature Comforts Brewing Co., Hill Farmstead Brewery and Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project, will be coming from both coasts and beyond.

"We're really excited to show a lot of our friends from around the world how amazing the St. Louis beer community is, and the St. Louis community in general," Manning says.

And for those of you who realize that Feb. 2 is Superbowl Sunday, don't worry, the event is from noon to 4pm, which means that you can get home before kickoff. If you love stouts, the Side Project Invitational might be the perfect way to pregame the championship.

Tickets aren't on sale just year and won't be until after Thanskgiving. The price isn't final yet, but a ticket will give guests access to unlimited pours from all participating breweries. Tickets will be available at both The Side Project Cellar and the Side Project Brewing tasting room.
