Have you been missing the Polish dill pickle soup from The Fountain on Locust? You can get some today – but you only have four hours.
The Fountain on Locust will host a "pickle pop up" today from 2 to 6pm. The Midtown spot has been temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 crisis. Owner Joy Grdnic says she wanted an opportunity for people to enjoy the restaurant again, but she also loved the idea of playing off of the idea that we are all in a "pickle" of sorts due to the pandemic.
Pickles will certainly be the star of the limited menu. The restaurant is offering its signature Polish dill pickle soup by the cup, bowl and even by the quart and gallon if you want to stock up at home. The Fountain will also be serving the Cuban sandwich, complete with pickles, and another crowd favorite: ice cream Martinis. Given that the entire operation will be executed through curbside pickup, the ice cream Martinis are served to customers as take-home kits. Today, they'll be selling kits for just the Mississippi Mudslide and Grasshopper varieties, but Grdnic says to except more Martini kits in the future. You can even get a plastic Martini glass to sip it in for $1.
While the pop up is meant to be fun, and of course a source of income for the restaurant, Grdnic hopes that it will remind diners about the restaurant, and that those same folks will come back to patronize the restaurant once the pandemic begins to recede.
"We really need people to come and support the restaurant once we open," Grdnic says.
The pop up will close early if they run out of food and supplies, so to secure your bowl of pickle soup or your Martini kit, head to The Fountain on Locust's website for preorder. Swing by the restaurant at your chosen time to have your order brought out to your car.
