Chowing down on a sandwich from Blues City Deli is a rite of passage for many St. Louisans, but tucked behind the venerable South City sandwich shop is its sister concept, which often flies under the radar.
Located in a garage behind the beloved deli is Melo's Pizzeria. This unassuming spot serves up Neapolitan-style pizzas that have few frills and are best eaten immediately. With just a few options on the menu, you can be sure that these recipes have been tried and tested to create pies that are simple but packed with flavor.
There are only three pies you can order from Melo's: a regular pie (tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil), a tomato pie (a minimal-cheese variation with tomato sauce, Grana Padano, garlic and oregano) and a white pie (garlic and olive oil base with mozzarella, ricotta, Grana Padano and basil), all of which are $10 each. From there, you can add some classic toppings for a few bucks extra – pepperoni, sausage, portabella mushrooms, red onion, black olives and hot cherry peppers are all on offer.
Melo's Pizzeria is offering its menu exclusively for carryout.
