A few of the year's most anticipated restaurants debuted this month, including Indo, from James Beard Rising Star nominee Nick Bognar in the former home of Good Fortune; Chao Baan, from the family behind longtime South Grand staple King & I; a second location of BEAST Craft Barbecue in The Grove and the long-delayed Up-Down Arcade Bar in the former home of Herbie's in the Central West End. Ben Poremba also opened a bodega-style market in Botanical Heights, and Sugarfire Smoke House expanded yet again with a new location in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Fortunately, there weren't too many closings this month, but Cork & Barrel shuttered in St. Peters, Missouri; the newly opened Fried closed up shop Downtown and the plant-based Fred & Ricky's, which operated two brick-and-mortar locations and sold grab-and-go items at retail, shut down operations. The acclaimed Reeds American Table also announced it would close its doors in early July.
