There’s an exciting addition coming to Farmers Park in Springfield, Missouri. This summer, Blue Heron Farm & Bakery will open its first brick-and-mortar shop, Blue Heron Farm Shop, on the south side of the city.
Since 2015, husband-and-wife team James and Jennie Boosey have used organic and sustainable practices to grow and raise food – from microgreens to grass-fed beef to free-range chicken and duck eggs – on their farm in Marshfield, Missouri. The decision to start the farm was an easy one, as the couple has always been passionate about food, and in 2018, they further expanded their operation, starting to bake and sell breads and pastries such as sourdough and croissants.
The Blue Heron stalls at area farmers’ markets always draw crowds, but soon customers won’t have to wait until the weekend to stock up on all of their favorite ingredients. Blue Heron Farm Shop will offer groceries, deli and bakery items, wine, beer and spirits alongside prepared foods. Grab a salad or sandwich topped with farm-fresh microgreens, pick up your favorite variety of sourdough or stuff your bags with seasonal produce and housemade sausage, bacon and ham. Everything at the shop will be grown, raised or produced by the Booseys and other regional farmers and makers.
The couple says they were inspired by markets of a bygone era when creating the shop. “It will be vibrant and modern but grounded in the culture of traditional European shopkeeping,” says James.
The Booseys hope to open Blue Heron Farm Shop by Labor Day. Until then, they’ll continue to sell their seasonal produce, eggs and baked goods at the Farmers Market of the Ozarks on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.
