Social on Patton will serve its last House Old Fashioned on Sun., June 30.
Since February of last year, Social has operated in downtown Springfield’s historic Rogers and Baldwin Hardware space, which was formerly occupied by City Butcher byproduct CB Social House. Social quickly gathered acclaim for its forward-thinking fare, quietly surpassing the expectations of Springfield’s most passionate foodies. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end: Social’s stakeholders announced the decision to close on the restaurant’s website last week.
The restaurant will feature a chef's table experience and a menu that departs from Southern fare.
“After putting forth our best effort to provide Springfield a unique dining experience coupled with fine art in one of Springfield’s most amazing historic downtown spaces, we’ve been unable to attract the patronage required to sustain operations,” the statement says.
The new concept comes from the team behind Social on Patton.
While Social will be remembered for its creative seasonal entrees and weekly R&D tasting menu, the space also had an artistic and philanthropic slant. Guest tables were dispersed among a de facto art gallery with art sales benefiting Harmony House, a local domestic violence shelter.
The closing is certainly a loss for the Springfield dining scene; however, Social fans can still enjoy the team’s creative approach to dining. Several of Social’s staff and owners are behind Team Taco, a highly anticipated taco concept currently under construction in Springfield’s Rountree neighborhood.
