Team Taco is the newest concept from the team behind Social on Patton.

Everybody wants to be the first to try new restaurants  especially when those spots serve tacos. News about Springfield’s freshest taco joint, Team Taco, has spread quickly and this weekend, you can get a chance to taste-test at a pop up at Tie & Timber Beer Co.

On Sat., June 30, Tie & Timber will be hosting a patio concert from 3:30 to 11pm to celebrate its new summer kolsch. From 5 to 9pm, Team Taco will be on hand with some of its favorite new offerings.

The new concept, which will be located in the former Elle's Patisserie space in Rountree, comes from Social on Patton's Doug Riddle and executive chef Daniel Stern. Riddle says diners may have even had a taste of Team Taco already, as Social opens up its downstairs cellar bar every Monday for R&D nights. “It’s basically the culinary team at Social along with our business partners,” Riddle says. “The idea is to make good tacos for people, and to have fun doing it.”

At Team Taco, Riddle says the focus is on blending flavors they like as opposed to authenticity. And with Stern as chef, there’s a good chance Team Taco will feature some pork belly on the menu. “We’ve messed around with pork belly and beef cheek,” says Riddle. “We’re playing with some interesting takes on stuff we’ve been doing at Social. Chef Dan is amazing with pork belly, so that will be a big focus for us. No matter which direction we go with our menus, everything will be made in house.”

Once Team Taco opens, Riddle will offer his expertise to a highly-curated drink menu with a focus on agave, including tequila and mezcal. “We’ll probably take a stab at anything that sounds good to drink on a patio,” he says.

Stop by Tie & Timber this weekend to see how Team Taco pairs with beer, or wait until they open to see how their tacos pair with tequila. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
