Springfield's Galloway neighborhood has a new spot for Japanese cuisine.

Niji Sushi Bar & Grill offers a wide variety of fresh and filling Asian cuisine, including bento boxes, ramen bowls, hibachi meals and, of course, sushi rolls and sashimi.

Owner Michelle Huynh wants Niji to be a place where weary walkers can pop in from a day on the trails and unwind with a glass of wine and some sushi while taking in the lush green surroundings. Huynh has worked to make Niji one with its surroundings; décor includes greenery throughout the space, an open-air patio and wide picture windows to let in plenty of light.

The restaurant, which can seat up to 101, has gleaming white and silver surfaces reminiscent of the soothing, spa-like interiors of Huynh’s nail salons: Venus Nail Bar, Sky Nails and Rainbow Nails. In fact, this newest sushi venture is an homage to Huynh’s growing empire – the Japanese word for rainbow is niji.

Niji is also a family affair. Huynh’s brother-in-law, who has 20 years of experience, runs the kitchen, and her sister created the menu of Japanese-centric and hibachi dishes.

As of Fri., June 12, Niji is open for lunch and dinner. In keeping with COVID-19–related health and safety restrictions, the restaurant will be operating at limited dine-in capacity and offering carryout and scheduled online ordering through its website.

Niji Sushi Bar & Grill is open Sunday through Thursday from 11am to 9pm and Friday and Saturday from 11am to 9:30pm.
