St. Louis-based barbecue chain Sugarfire Smoke House will open its first location in Springfield, Missouri, by the end of the year. This will be the 15th overall location for the barbecue joint, which is known for its brisket, ribs and pulled pork, as well as some creatively named daily specials.
Co-founders chef Mike Johnson and Charlie Downs are joining forces with two local franchisees, David Burke and David Whitman, for the location. It will be the first franchise for the pair, who have coined the new location Sugarfire Springfield.
According to a release, Johnson has been looking to expand into Springfield for a while, and thought that Burke and Whitman would be the right pair for bringing Sugarfire's acclaimed barbecue to southwestern Missouri.
“This is one of the fastest growing areas in Springfield, so we’re thrilled to bring Sugarfire here,” Burke said in a release. “It’s something the community didn’t know it needed, but customers will be hooked after one bite!”
The 4,200-square-foot restaurant is located in the Southgate Center shopping plaza and will be able to seat up to 100 guests. The design will pay homage to the original St. Louis location, decking out the inside with murals commissioned by Missouri State fine arts students.
“We’ve pulled from the brand’s rich history and made those features the focal points here, as we want to stay true to Sugarfire’s beginnings in all that we do,” Whitman said.
The location is expected to open by the end of the year, though not exact date has been released yet.
