Sugarfire Smoke House

Sugarfire Smoke House will open in Springfield on Sunday.

St. Louis-based Sugarfire Smoke House is coming to Springfield a little sooner than expected.

The new location of Mike Johnson's barbecue chain will open its doors Sun., Dec. 22. The restaurant was originally expected to open by the end of the year.

Johnson and co-owner Charlie Downs are joining forces with two local franchisees, David Burke and David Whitman, for the location. It will be the first franchise for the pair, who have coined the new location Sugarfire Springfield.

The 4,200-square-foot restaurant is located in the Southgate Center shopping plaza and will be able to seat up to 100 guests. The design will pay homage to the original St. Louis location, decking out the inside with murals commissioned by fine arts students at Missouri State University.
