St. Louis restaurant openings and closings: October 2021

October was a busy month for the St. Louis restaurant scene. Several new spots debuted, like Botanica, the new Italian venture from acclaimed chef Ben Welch, and Rockwell Beer Garden, the outdoor beer-and-pizza concept from Rockwell Beer Co. Midtown's City Foundry saw two new concepts – Chicken Scratch from Niche Food Group alum Nate Hereford and Sureste from Nixta alum Alex Henry – bringing the total amount of restaurants in the food hall to a dozen. Multiple local concepts also got new locations; you can now find Hi-Pointe Drive-In and Revel Kitchen in Kirkwood, and Kimchi Guys now has a second home near Washington University.

Sadly, St. Louis also lost some old favorites in October. Gerard Craft announced the closing of Taste, one of St. Louis' most beloved cocktail bars, but he added the welcome news that a new concept will soon open in its place. The short-lived Chatawa also closed on Morganford, leaving its partner concept, Grand Pied, to fill the space on its own.
