Pipers Tea & Coffee offers a range of drinks and local treats from a sunny south St. Louis corner spot

A new coffee shop in south St. Louis has quickly become a neighborhood destination. Pipers Tea & Coffee debuted on the stretch of South Kingshighway recently dubbed The Crown District last November, offering single-origin coffee, small batch loose-leaf teas and more.

As reported by Feast last year, the concept comes from Peter and Amber Barnett. The husband-and-wife duo, who are of English and French-American descent, respectively, trace the roots of Pipers back to their love of Earl Grey tea, launching a wholesale tea company in 2012 and subsequently opening their original brick-and-mortar café three years later in Paducah, Kentucky.

The St. Louis storefront is the third location of Pipers Tea & Coffee following a second café in Paducah, which launched in 2020 and serves as the brand’s coffee roasting and tea blending headquarters. The approximately 1,500-square-foot café in St. Louis features a clean design with restored historic elements, including a reclaimed tin ceiling, and modern elements, such as a centralized bar that houses an inset espresso machine.

“The coffee shop is a great place to get together and strike up conversations, underlined with our focus of trying to produce the very best high-quality drinks we can,” Peter says.

From the menu, guests can choose from drip and pour-over coffees, as well as a variety of espresso beverages available with housemade syrups in flavors such as vanilla bean, coffee blossom honey, butter caramel and honey cinnamon. On the tea side of offerings, matcha is available in a latte or in lemonade. Additional tea latte options include chai and a London fog, which features Pipers’ Grey, made up of fine black tea, high-quality bergamot oil, vanilla and cornflower blossoms.

The café also offers hot chocolate and a variety of drinks on tap, including nitro cold brew, Confluence Kombucha and nitro tea and lemonade. Locally sourced sweets include La Beaume Co. Macarons, Whisk: a Sustainable Bakeshop cookies and pastries and Sift’d Bakery’s vegan and gluten-free treats. And, of course, Pipers’ seasonal roasted coffee beans and signature tea blends are available to take home, too.

Pipers Tea & Coffee is open daily from 7am to 7pm.
