Two of Kansas City’s most hotly anticipated openings of the year came in July. First, J. Rieger and Co.’s major distillery expansion debuted to huge crowds on July 12, including its two bars/restaurants, production facility and historic exhibit. Also opening July 12 was Fox & Pearl in the Westside, featuring chef Vaughn Good’s open hearth cooking and fresh pastas. But there were also several more high profile openings worthy of note, including Rochester Brewing & Roasting Co., which opened its doors to coffee- and beer-lovers in the Crossroads. Just about a mile east, Thou Mayest made its return with Thee Outpost, located inside of the CollectiveEx co-working and art space. Pokesan began serving “sushi in a bowl” at 15th and Grand downtown, and the Boulevard Tours & Rec Center opened its adults-only “Rec Deck,” featuring full-court shuffleboard and canned beers. Finally, down in Leawood, Ironhaus Bierhalle and Garden began slinging “authentisch” German fare and beers alongside American classics in the former Paddy O’Quigley’s space.
In August, look for the opening of chef Carlos Falcon’s Sayachi Sushi and Oyster Bar in Brookside, as well as Michael Corvino’s quick-eats spot, Ravenous, in the Crossroads, and the new ice cream shop, The Scoop at Martin City, from the owners of Martin City Brewing Co.
