Poi-O Chicken

You can't go wrong with the wood-fired chicken at Poi-O.

Chef Carlos R. Mortera opened his wood-fired chicken restaurant, Poi-O, ready to cater to carryout business. Now, he has taken that model a step further by offering no-contact curbside carryout and delivery, with he and his team ready to feed those craving Poi-O’s grilled birds, ribs and creative sides.

Open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 8pm, and located right off Southwest Boulevard, Poi-O is known for its whole or half wood-fired chickens and half slab of tender adobo pork ribs. Mortera has also made a serious name for himself with his creative sides, which you must order along with the protein of your choosing to get the full experience.

Popular sides include the charred broccoli with chile and lime, kimchi fried rice, kimchi potato salad, seasoned black beans and elote. Be sure to ask for some hot sauce or salsa to go; Mortera makes them all in-house and they are delicious.

For those looking to feed a larger group, Mortera has also added some family meals to the carryout menu at Poi-O. The Whole Bird is a whole wood-fired chicken with 4 sides of your choosing, salsas, tortillas and house pickles, while The Rack offers you a whole rack of adobo ribs with four sides, salsas, tortillas and house pickles.

Get the best of both worlds and order the Half 'n' Half, which features half a chicken, half a rack of adobo ribs and four sides with salsas, tortillas and house pickles. Just don't forget to add a Mexican Coke, Grapefruit or Mandarin Jarrito soda or a Topo Chico to your order.

Mortera has also opened a donation link on his Facebook page where you can make a cash donation to help him donate free meals to hungry industry workers every Monday from 2 to 4pm at Poi-O. Those needing a meal can come ready to show their food handler's card, liquor card or pay stub to receive a free meal that includes ¼ chicken (white or dark meat), one side, house pickles, salsas and tortillas. A limited amount of free meals are available and they will be given out on a first come, first serve basis.
