As we start to shake off the doldrums of winter, a handful of openings have enticed Kansas Citians out of their homes to eat and drink. February’s biggest opening was perhaps that of the Denver-based Snooze, an A.M. Eatery, which serves boozy breakfast options every day of the week in a colorful, friendly Westport location. Notable as well was the opening of South of Summit Taqueria and Tequila, the street food-inspired latest addition to the lineup of restaurants from the Summit Restaurant Group (Boru Ramen, Summit Grill, Pearl Tavern and Third Street Social).

In the Crossroads, wine-lovers have a new premium grocery to visit in The Pairing Wine & Grocer. Here, diners can pick up upscale grocery items before visiting the wine bar in the back of the space for wine by the glass as well as a selection of cheese and charcuterie boards. Just a few blocks away, Sushi Mo! opened its stall at Parlor, serving fresh sushi, dumplings and mochi. In Hospital Hill, Oh! Café opened in the former Café Europa location, serving breakfast fare and pastries, pizzas, paninis and burgers. Finally, out in Lawrence, Big Mill, which serves Detroit-style pizza alongside thoughtful cocktails, is proving to be a hit.

Along with the arrival of Spring, it appears a small restaurant boomlet is on the way for Kansas City. Duck & Roll, which will serve Hong-Kong style dim sum, will be opening on March 24 in the South Plaza area. Chef Michael Corvino, fresh off another James Beard nomination, will be officially opening his lunch counter, Ravenous, in the courtyard of Corrigan Station. Much of the action will also be in Westport, with the opening of the Denver-based Atomic Provisions concept. This quasi-food hall and bar includes Atomic Cowboy (a cocktail and beer bar), Denver Biscuit Co. Fat Sully’s (serving pizza) and Frozen Gold (frozen yogurt), all under one roof at 41st and Pennsylvania.
