Woodyard Bar-B-Que

Woodyard Bar-B-Que was born out of a love of smoke and the wood that fuels it. The original wood yard was moved to its present location on Merriam Lane in the 1950s, where owner Frank Schloegel II made a living selling cords of wood to locals and restaurants who would phone in or stop buy and pick up hickory, oak, apple or cherry to fuel their backyard grills or professional smokers. At lunch, Schloegel would fire up his grill and make lunch for customers for free. His son, Frank Schloegel III, continued the tradition and soon, the family realized it was not just their wood, but also their barbecue, that was in high demand. That’s when the restaurant was added on site. Try the burnt-end chili and the special of the day, listed on the boards outside. Woodyard Bar-B-Que is no stranger to fame, either: the spot has been featured on Diners, Drive-In’s & Dives, Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations and Andrew Zimmern’s Delicious Destinations.
