The coffee scene in historic St. Charles, Missouri, has boomed over the past few years with the arrival of several new shops throughout the city. From cold brew to nitro and espresso to drip coffee, no matter how you take your cup, you’ll find something here to kick your caffeine craving.
Bike Stop Café

Located near the Katy Trail, the theme of Bike Stop Café is only fitting. Whether you pull up on two or four wheels, this is a great stop for a cup of Joe, plus hearty, healthy sustenance. On the menu, there are a number of wraps, including the Triathlon Wrap (eggs, a blend of five cheeses, tomato, mushroom, red onion and a drizzle of ranch) and the Greek Goddess Wrap (eggs, Feta, red onion, tomato, avocado and spinach with a side of pesto). You can also build your own quesadilla, share a platter of stuffed avocado and hummus or simply snack on baked goods such as the power cookies or gooey butter cake. (Photo courtesy of Bike Stop Café)

Frontier Perk Cafe

Family-owned and -operated Frontier Perk Cafe serves everything from drip coffee to lattes, alongside bagels, croissants and turnovers. For something more substantial, dig into the biscuits and gravy, poke bowl or “magic” chicken soup. Or try another one of our favorites – the mahi mahi tacos with queso fresco, mango salsa, pickled red onion, purple cabbage and cilantro with garlic lime aïoli. (Photo courtesy of Frontier Perk Cafe)

Besides the perfectly brewed espresso and more, the shop boasts a 100-percent plant-based menu, with new specials made with seasonal ingredients every week. Keep an eye out for the Chili Cheese Dawg smothered in housemade chili, a three-cheese blend, red onion and jalapeños or the Mediterranean Sammy with housemade hummus and Feta, spinach, red onion, Roma tomatoes and roasted red peppers on toasted wheat berry bread. Picasso’s Coffee

Each cup of coffee at Picasso’s Coffee is a masterpiece. With two locations in St. Charles, the company uses only the freshest micro-roasted coffees, and the Muse coffees, in particular, are selected, cupped and roasted by Picasso’s baristas. For something other than a classic coffee drink, try the RazMaTaz, a mocha with raspberry syrup. You can also grab an artisanal bite with your coffee; Picasso’s receives daily deliveries from La Bonne Bouchée in Creve Coeur, Missouri, plus it offers oatmeal and bagels. The Bridge Coffee House

More than a coffee shop, The Bridge Coffee House is a community hub where guests can gather freely and build meaningful relationships. On any given day, you’ll find book clubs, gaming groups, faith-based organizations and families getting together over coffee cups and small bites. Besides serving both hot and cold java alongside various flavors of smoothies, there are also breakfast items such as bagels, breakfast sandwiches and muffins on the menu. The Crooked Tree Coffee House

This St. Charles coffee house gets its name from the infamous “crooked tree,” a large catalpa tree on Lindenwood University’s campus. If you’re looking for a specialty coffee, we recommend the Praline Panther with butter pecan, caramel, steamed milk and espresso. For something a bit more summery, grab an Italian soda or smoothie – the Georgia On My Mind featuring peach and vanilla is fantastic. The food menu is also varied: Dishes range from the Crepe of Monte Cristo (ham, egg and American cheese with a cream cheese sauce and strawberry glaze) to the Chorizo Burrito (grilled chorizo, black bean chili, Cheddar, eggs and scallions in a wheat tortilla topped with avocado). Upshot Coffee Brake Shop

In 2020, Upshot Coffee Brake Shop opened near Lindenwood University in St. Charles. Besides coffee drinks such as pour overs, lattes and cold brew, the establishment also serves coffee alternatives, like the Mango Match Refresher with matcha, housemade mango-lemon syrup and elderflower tonic water. We also love the charcoal latte and golden milk latte – both served with oat milk. Feeling peckish? Upshot has a leveled-up avocado toast that should more than satisfy you, plus power bowls and wraps. (Photo courtesy of Upshot Coffee Brake Shop)
