Looking for a cozy meal on a cold night in Columbia? These dishes are just the ticket
It's the dead of January, and we've got a long way to go before the weather gets better. Cold nights call for hot, hearty meals – that are maybe even a little spicy – to warm you up from the inside out. If you're looking for something that will stick to your bones, here are some comforting dishes in Columbia that fit the bill.
Butch Jones at Cafe Berlin

Eggs, sausage and pancakes are a classic diner breakfast, but have you ever wrapped your eggs and sausage up in your pancake? Cafe Berlin takes the liberty of doing it for you with the Butch Jones, served with a side of German-style potatoes and apples. Warning: You'll need a knife and fork to eat this indulgent spin on a breakfast burrito. (Photo by Aaron Ottis)

Gogi & Waffles from Seoul Taco

Some days, you just want to curl up on the couch and eat fries in front of the TV for dinner. Seoul Taco has made it easy, a little more fun and even nutritious to do just that. The Gogi & Waffles starts with sweet potato waffle fries that are then topped with queso blanco, kimchi, green onion, roasted sesame seeds and the signature Seoul Sauce. For more heat, add Wasabi Sauce or gochujang to your pile of fries. (Photo by Mabel Suen)

Hot Chicken Sandwich from Brassy Bird

Crispy fried chicken and hot sauce are a match made in heaven. If you're not yet convinced, the Hot Chicken from Brassy Bird will surely change your mind. The pickles, creamy garlic slaw and handcrafted ranch piled on top help balance the spice of the sandwich. (Photo courtesy of Brassy Bird)

Jalapeño-Smothered Pork Chop from Addison's

Looking for something that's comforting but upscale? Head to Addison's for the jalapeño-smothered pork chop. Oxtail Stew from Jamaican Jerk Hut

For a taste of the Caribbean, rock down to Vandiver Drive for the oxtail stew at Jamaican Jerk Hut. The rich dish features oxtail simmered with butter beans and served over traditional red beans and rice (or simply white rice) to sop up all the gorgeous flavors. Despite the distance, this stew will make you feel the warmth of the islands from head to toe. (Photo by Aaron Ottis)

Pad Thai from Bangkok Gardens

As if a heaping plate of pad Thai wasn't good enough, Bangkok Gardens' rendition allows you to customize the spice level, from "no spice" to "volcanic." However, the restaurant warns diners that the latter is insanely spicy – and they won't remake the meal if you can't handle the heat. (Photo by Kim Wade)

Soup of the Day from Range Free

Although its selection continually rotates, Range Free is a reliable spot for a bright bowl of soup on a dark winter night. If you're lucky, you might find chef-owner Anna Meyer's spice-roasted butternut squash soup or a hearty helping of chili on the daily menu. Pair your pick with crusty bread or a baked good for dipping and you've got yourself a meal. (Photo by Kim Wade)

Spicy Garlic Shrimp Po'Boy from The Quarry

The Quarry has several kinds of po'boy, but none quite like the spicy garlic shrimp po'boy. The fried shrimp tossed in a kicking garlic sauce is served with lettuce and tomato – and might have you sweating by the last bite. (Photo by Aaron Ottis)

The Stretch from Broadway Diner

Chili for winter isn't groundbreaking, but chili on top of hash browns with eggs, onion, peppers and cheese is something special. The Stretch is the signature dish at Broadway Diner, so head over and cross this item off your Columbia bucket list. (Photo courtesy of Broadway Diner)
